Psalm 33:3 "Sing to Him a new song; Play skillfully with a shout of joy."

Definition: Emotional pop, usually orchestrated alt-rock with
heavy drum loops and sizzling but not overly distorted
guitars. Becoming a very popular sub-genre.

If Joy Division had spent any time in Seatle they may have sounded a bit like Pop Unknown. This Texas-based outfit has some truly impressive moments on this positive EP. As an "emo" band, they present an emotionally charged, mostly upbeat outlook on life. Vocals and lyrics are minimal. The music is top notch, and features alt-rock guitar laden over thumping bass and drums. "I will follow you anywhere" sings Tim Lasister on the opening track; from there it's all supercharged alt-rock.

Artist: Appleseed Cast

Filled with angst and emotionally charged cynacism, this debut from emo-rockers Appleseed Cast sounds like one part New Order, one part Nirvana. I wouldn't say this is a Christian band, although apparently there are members who espouse Christianity. It is relatively positive in its orientation, so that's good. If the guitars aren't screaming, the saxaphone is. Lyrics are secondary, since the vocals are basically one more emotive instrument, Ireally liked track five ("Stars") with its hammering piano, and just about every other song grabbed me in some way or another.
